São Luís is the capital of Brazilian state of Maranhao and it's located on São Luís island in the Baía de São Marcos. São Luis is a charming place with a unique culture. An old slaving port, São Luís has preserved much of the African culture, and it shows on its cuisine, its popular traditions and festivals and the lively reggae parties that make the culture of São Luis stand out among Brazilian cities. The main tourist attractions of São Luís is the historical centre with a vast array of buildings from 17th to 19th centuries. The Centro Historico is an open-air museum filled with uncountable architectural elements and details, such as azulejos, picturesque windows, doors and balconies, cobblestone, narrow streets that transport the visitor to the city’s rich past. São Luís has, as well, one of the best concentrations of galleries, museums and craft stores in the Northeast area.São Luís is a fascinating place, a city with a magical feel to it and a vibrant atmosphere. In a nutshell, São Luís is a joy to visit.
