Kristiansund is a local government area located on the western shoreline of Norway, within the Nordmøre region of the Møre og Romsdal county. The town of Kristiansund, which was established in 1742, serves as the administrative hub for the municipality and is also the primary town for the entire Nordmøre region. Other significant communities within the municipality include the villages of Kvalvåg, Rensvik, and Nedre Frei. Covering an area of 87 square kilometers (34 square miles), Kristiansund ranks as the 333rd largest out of the 356 municipalities in Norway in terms of area. With a population of 24,179, it is the 51st most populated municipality in the country.
