Golfo Aranci is a town (municipality) in the Province of Sassari in the Italian region of Sardinia, situated approximately 200 kilometers (120 miles) north of Cagliari and about 13 kilometers (8 miles) northeast of Olbia. The name of the town comes from an incorrect translation from the old Gallurese place name of the Golfu di li Rancio. Once known as Figari, the current town developed in the mid-18th century as a fishing port. In the early 19th century, a Royal Decree designated it as the main port for arrivals from the mainland, which contributed to its population growth.
