Colca Canyon Peru

Colca Canyon is a gorge of the Colca River in the southern part of Peru, situated approximately 160 kilometers (99 miles) to the northwest of Arequipa. It ranks as the third most popular tourist spot in Peru, attracting around 120,000 visitors each year. With a depth of 3,270 meters (10,730 feet), it is among the deepest canyons in the world. The Colca Valley is a vibrant Andean valley with pre-Inca origins, and towns established during the Spanish colonial era, which are still populated by people from the Collagua and Cabana cultures. The local inhabitants preserve their age-old traditions and continue to farm the pre-Inca terraced fields.
