Mitla Mexico

Mitla (Mictlan or Place of the Dead in Nahuatl, Lyobaa or Place of Rest in Zapotec, Ñuu Ndiyi or Place of the Dead in Mixtec) is an archeological zone located in the municipality of San Pablo Villa de Mitla, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, 40 km from the capital by the Pan-American Highway (No. 190) that leads to Tehuantepec, and more than 600 km from Mexico City; Several archaeologists have worked on it, among which Leopoldo Batres (1852-1926) stands out, who discovered Zapotec foundations under existing Mixtec decorations.
