Breakfast at the hotel.
Excursion to the Bosco di Sant'Antonio. This area that is just a few minutes from the town is a place that was once considered sacred and was dedicated to Jupiter. It covers 17 hectares within the Majella National Park. The ideal place for walking or horseback riding and to immerse yourself in the nature that this region can offer.
Guided jeep excursion in the park.
Rest of the day dedicated to the discovery of the area, one of the three national parks of Abruzzo between the provinces of L'Aquila, Pescara and Chieti.
Sixty peaks, thirty of which exceed 2000 meters: after the Gran Sasso, the Majella is the second Apennine summit with Mount Amaro, high 2793 meters. It is the ideal place for trekking thanks to the wild valleys that run through the considerable differences in altitude of the mountain. The Morrone divides the center of the massif from the basin of Sulmona; in the southern part are the mountains Pizzalto and Rotella, the forest of Sant'Antonio and the mountains Pizzi and Secine. There are numerous fossil traces of the ancestors of the animals that now populate the park area, once submerged by the sea: ammonites, rudists, nummulites up to the precious corals. The park is a true botanical garden, rich in rarities such as the Aquilegia della Majella or the curved adonide, in addition to the viola and the genepì. Among the woods prevail beech woods, oak oaks, oaks, hornbeams and ornithines and, at high altitudes, the rare mountain pine. Particular is the fauna: 16 different species of diurnal butterflies, almost all of those in Italy. Among the mammals the bear, the wolf and the wild cat, as well as deer, roe deer and chamois. Along the rivers Orta, Orfento and Vella lies the otter. The most particular species are the spectacled salamander, the yellow-bellied howl and the Orsini viper. Finally, among the birds, the golden eagle, the lanner, the goshawk, the white-backed and wall woodpeckers and the tortolino plover.
Return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight.
