The Holy Church Co-Cathedral of Santa María is the most important Christian temple in Cáceres and, since 1957, it has had the rank of Co-Cathedral. The origin of this church dates back to the 13th century as a Romanesque temple. The church was renovated from the end of the 15th century to the middle of the 16th century in the late Gothic style. From the old Romanesque period there remain late Romanesque corbels - heads of the beam that protrudes outside - over the western and southern Gothic doors.
